STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE!
In a fantastic season for Walworth Academy, students have excelled to reach some fabulous destinations this year. Farouq Bashe, who is bound for the University of Oxford in September, said “I really didn’t expect it! I’m so happy!” Cindy Chen is going to the University of Bristol to read Engineering with a portfolio of straight As. Michael Gairey joins Cindy in Bristol after the summer to study Business Management, having worked in partnership with South London Renegades American Football team to secure financial support which will continue throughout his degree. His love of the sport was garnered at Walworth Academy, playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He now plays for Great Britain and looks forward to continuing his sporting career alongside his academic studies. Michael said “it hasn’t been easy but through discipline I’ve achieved milestones I had previously only dreamed of!”
Successes for individual departments include Physics, where an astonishing 57% of students secured the top grades of A or A*! Students on the business BTEC course expect to be among the top scorers in the country this year with every single member of the cohort achieving a grade Distinction within their portfolio.
These exceptional results come off the back of a positive year for the academy, with a great ofsted report recognising the wealth of opportunities provided for students by the school, and a third successive year of recognition from the Pearson National Teaching Awards. The school has secured a Bronze Award for Secondary School of the Year in ‘making a difference’ and looks forward to building on this week’s success with GCSE results later in the summer.
