Ark Teacher Training offers the perfect blend of theory and practice to provide trainees with the tools and support they need to begin a promising career in teaching.

All trainees become familiar with the demands, expectations and rewards of the teaching profession, placing them in an optimum position to be successful in their future careers. Leaders’ skilful planning and insight have led to the establishment of a first-class training programme.

An essential part of the programme’s application and selection process is finding people who believe passionately in the power of education to transform the lives of young people and present real opportunities in life. Since the programme’s launch, they’ve trained nearly 1,000 new teachers, and in Summer 2022 celebrate the graduation of their tenth cohort.

In 2021, 97% of Ark Teacher Training graduates secured a teaching role.

As a School Direct programme, trainees benefit from classroom training and experience from their very first day. The hands-on nature of the programme helps trainees to quickly gain the skills and confidence needed to become talented educators. In addition to real-world teaching experience, Ark schools are located in areas where trainees are able to have the biggest impact in narrowing the attainment gap to quality education at a fantastic school.

Trainees are motivated and inspired by the partnership’s aim to provide equalaccess to high-quality education for all pupils. This sense of purpose is integral to the training programme.

Unparalleled support and a focus on trainee and ECT wellbeing are key differentiators of the Ark Teacher Training programme. Rooted in the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’, a wide range of toolsand resources are available to trainees to help manage workload and stress as they kick-start their teaching careers. Of 152 trainees who took part in a 2021 Spring Term Survey, 99% said their wellbeing was well supported by the Ark Teacher Training team.

There are countless aspects of the programme that make training so enjoyable, but what I value most is the phenomenal support provided by members of the department, from tutors to coaches and leads. Never have I felt alone on this rewarding path to becoming a primary school teacher - a dream that Ark Teacher Training has made possible.

Routes available to trainees to fund their teacher training year include government bursaries, student and maintenance loans and scholarships. For mathematics, chemistry, physics and computing, bursaries of up to £24,000 are available as well as scholarships of up to £26,000. Regardless of the funding route, trainees have the same fantastic training experience.

After achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), graduates receive a full salary on the qualified teacher pay scale when they progress onto the Early Career Teachers 2-year programme. 

In May of 2022, Ark Teacher Training retained its ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating, becoming one of only a handful of UK teacher training providers inspected under the new framework to do so. This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of their trainees, tutors, mentors and staff across their schools who go above and beyond to ensure the very best education for their young people.
